Tor Bank Special School
Tor Bank Special School, Dundonald, is a co–educational controlled special school for pupils with severe learning difficulties ranging in age from 3 to 19 years. Major renovations were undertaken in 2012 to provide a state–of–the–art facility for the school’s 160 pupils.
As part of the work, Graham Construction approached us about providing seating, planting and play equipment for the school’s outdoor classrooms and growing areas.
Ecoplastic have been the sole supplier of outdoor furniture for schools in Northern Ireland since 2011, providing hundreds of schools with safe, durable and maintenance free playground furniture. The durability and attractiveness of our products means that recycled plastic is now the standard material requested by schools in Northern Ireland for outdoor areas.
Tor Bank school selected a range of tables and litterbins, which included additional playground enhancements such as game–boards on each table and colourful design motifs on each seat. Recycled plastic does not rot or splinter, so is safe and durable for children and young people. It reduces health and safety concerns for the school and it’s long lifespan of 40+ years meant that they’ll be enjoyed for many years to come.
Graham Construction also commissioned us to design and build 10 large curved planters for the landscaped garden. Working together, the final designs made best use of recycled plastic’s flexibility and toughness to create beautiful planting boxes for the grounds.
Tor Bank re–opened in January 2013.
