We believe that every industry has the potential to adapt digital solutions in new ways.
The Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government (ROI) is the body responsible for monitoring and maintaining Failte Ireland’s National Waymarked Ways. With significant government investment in these trails, Failte Ireland were eager to evaluate the number of people using the facilities.
Usage monitors were installed at locations around the country to track walkers and cyclists using the trail. The timber posts that housed the counters were rotting and water damaging the electronics.
Joe Carney, Trails Officer for the DOEHLG, tasked Ecoplastic to come up with a solution using recycled plastic – the rot and tamper proof qualities making it it an obvious choice.
Using our high–tech CNC machine and engineering skill, we developed a post that would hold the technology, keep it water tight and make it inconspicuous along the trails.
Over 60 of these are now installed around the country, including the Cliffs of Moher, Dublin Mountains Way and the Bluestack Way.
